Rain & God’s Reign {October Challenge Week 3}

Here in the Pacific Northwest, we entering into the rainy season. In October there is green with evergreen trees and the brown grass of summer is green and growing. The deciduous trees (what few we have) add a gorgeous splash of fall color.

In front of my house, is this area we call the moat. There is no street drain so when it rains it forms this very large puddle. In October when the sun peeks out there is such beauty! The colorful trees are reflected in the “moat” and it’s just a beautiful moment as the rain falls, I think of God’s reign. God reigns overall including our weather.

The word reign invokes images of royalty, power, influence, and authority. Jesus is the King whose kingdom shall have no end. Jesus commanded the wind and sea to obey Him which demonstrated His power, influence, and authority over the storm at sea.

When I think of God’s reign I also start singing in my head the Rich Mullins song Our God is an Awesome God. Well, I start thinking about the chorus part:

Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God

I love how the chorus points out that God reigns with wisdom. God reigns with power. But I think the most important point is that God reigns with love.

So as the rain pours down outside my window, I contemplate God reigning with wisdom. He shares His wisdom through Scripture. I contemplate His power. God created all things. He is powerful enough that he only had to speak “Let there be light” and the light was created.

And His love? His enduring love? His love for mankind? I think this verse sums it up beautifully:

“16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16 NKJV)
