Pandia Press

Pandia Press is well know for their History and Science products. This year the Crew was able to review from both curricula.

One group of us was given one of the R.E.A.L. Science Odyssey products. There are three different books. All are level one, which is grade level appropriate for 1st through 4th. The three book topics are Earth & Space, Life, and Chemistry. Level two volumes are due out this year.

You will find that these products are specifically written “for homeschoolers”. This is an incremental program that will gently build on itself. Mathematics and scientific terminology is incorporated as well. No science background is needed to teach these courses. The science series is a complete one-year curriculum which is presented in a story-like format. It has plenty of hands-on activities, and you are given parent instructions, labs, journal ideas and a suggested reading list.

The other group of us was given one of the History Odyssey products.

The curriculum guide time periods are:

  • Ancients ( levels 1, 2, 3)
  • Middle Ages ( levels 1, 2, 3)
  • Early Modern ( levels 1, 2)
  • Modern Times ( levels 1, 2)

Level one : guides are written for 1st through 4th grade students
Level two : guides are written for grades 5 and up*
Level three : guides are written for grade 9 and up

*Early Modern, level two is recommended for grade 6 and up. Modern Times, level two is recommended for grade 7 and up. These two courses include more difficult writing assignments and literary analysis.)Although generally written for middle school-age children many customers have very successfully utilized level two courses for high school.

History Odyssey study guides are written based on three principles:

•    History is fun when it is presented as a story.
•    History is best studied through the reading of great books.
•    History is best taught through a world view with an opportunity to learn about different cultures.

These history guides will take you and your student on a comprehensive study of the literature, historical events, and geography of that time period. Each study guide is intended to be a year-long study of the Ancients, the Middle Ages, Early Modern, or Modern time periods. The easy to follow lessons present history chronologically and include reading and writing assignments, map work, and activities.
