History on Horseback: The Early Years Reviews

This article is in collaboration with Sonrise Stable Books.

Do you have an animal lover? Is history a tough subject to teach in your house? Members of the Homeschool Review Crew were given the opportunity to review the most recent release from Sonrise Stable Books, History on Horseback Volume 1. This is a great way to study history in a fun and different way.

Horses have been very much a part of human history, and History on Horseback: The Early Years takes your student on a unique approach studying history with the use of this majestic animal. Each chapter presents history as if horses would have written our history books. Animals typically are not included in historical studies, and have been for the most part left out of the history books. After all the “Midnight Ride of Paul Revere” required a horse, he did not complete that historical journey on his own. Mr. Revere had help not just from humans, but from the horse that provided his transportation.

Students will explore a variety of horses from Cortez’s black stallion to the modern-day Cinderella Story of Harry de Leyer’s Snowman, who was rescued from a slaughter truck to become a national jumping champion.

History on Horseback Volume 1 covers the years of 1493 to 1866. The primary focus of this volume is American History. It has been written for all ages, but primarily will work best for ages 12 and up.
