If you have a child who has been diagnosed with dyslexia or struggles with reading (even if they aren’t dyslexic), you might be looking for a proven program to help them improve their reading and spelling skills. Members of the Homeschool Review Crew have recently been reviewing Dyslexia Gold. For this review, they received the Dyslexia Gold Full Bundle. This bundle includes all four parts of the Dyslexia Gold program: Engaging Eyes, Fluency Builder, Spelling Tutor, and Times Table Tutor. Dyslexia Gold is not considered a total reading program but is designed for students who have been taught to read and are still struggling.
Engaging Eyes utilizes games for to students focus both eyes on the same point and track across the page. These games include: Target Practice, Eye Tracking, and Whack an Alien. Vision training games help the students show marked improvement with fun games in just ten minutes per day.
Fluency Builder is designed to improve reading speed, accuracy and comprehension by also being used for as little as ten minutes per day. The activities in Fluency Builder help develop phonological awareness, rapid automatic naming, phoneme manipulation, segmenting, auditory discrimination and morpheme mapping.
With Spelling Tutor, students see significant progress in their spelling ability in a short amount of time. They are taught to spell 1000 of the most common words by dictation. The process of writing the words helps the student to learn the spelling of these common words much quicker than other methods.
Times Table Tutor is based on Singapore Math which teaches math in three steps; concrete, pictorial and abstract. Students work 10 minutes per day with the engaging lessons which keep building until they have learned their times tables up to 12×12.
Dyslexia Gold has been shown to show marked improvement in students who struggle with reading. Children who are between 7 and 11 years of age and are at least a year behind, showed an average of 12 months of reading improvement by using the program for ten hours (an average of 10 minutes per day for thirty days)
