The Color Orange

When I think of The Color Orange, I think of fall and the glorious hues that paint the trees this time of year. As I sit here sipping tea and typing, I see mostly a sea of green outside my window. Small splashes of orange and yellow peek through the towering evergreens. As fall marches on, more and more orange, yellow, and red leaves will appear—but for now, the deciduous trees still blend in quietly among their evergreen neighbors.

That lack of color on the trees isn’t stopping my family from celebrating The Color Orange indoors. We’ve unpacked our fall decorations, and my daughter created a new wreath bursting with autumn tones. The Pumpkin Spice scented candle now fills the house with warmth, while orange, yellow, and red plastic leaves decorate our shelves. Our fall-themed placemats, tablecloths, and napkins add cheerful splashes of orange to every meal.

All this talk of fall and The Color Orange reminds me of harvest time—of canning, preserving, and filling jars with the flavors of the season. We canned bright orange carrots and made peach jam, glowing like liquid sunshine on the shelf. Even the pluot jam, with its reddish-orange tint, brings a reminder of the season’s richness and warmth. These jars of color—so vibrant and alive—make me think of how God paints the world each autumn in shades of orange, gold, and crimson.

What does The Color Orange make you think of? Do you picture the changing leaves, a tall glass of orange juice, or maybe a purring orange tabby cat? Perhaps you think of sweet orange sherbet, pumpkins, and everything pumpkin spice. I may pass on the pumpkin spice latte, but I’ll happily take a pumpkin spice bagel or a slice of pumpkin cheesecake. However you enjoy it, The Color Orange is the color of warmth, abundance, and gratitude—a perfect reflection of the fall season itself.
