I think we can all agree on the great importance of helping our kids to become successful readers! Reading Kingdom is an online K-3 reading program; the first to use the groundbreaking “Phonics-PLUS” system, a 6 skill model of reading instruction that incorporates elements of phonics and whole language while teaching additional skills required for reading and writing success without all those complicated rules. Reading Kingdom is the only system that teaches these six skills; using these our children can easily master reading and writing and children 4-10 can learn to read and write at a third-grade level. Developed by Dr. Marion Blank, a world-renowned expert on literacy and Director of the Light on Learning Institute at Columbia University, this is a program that will give your children the help they need to become strong, confident readers. All you need to get started is a computer and an internet connection. Sign up for a free trial of the program you want to use, add your account(s), and the program will evaluate your child’s skills and start them off at the level that is best for them.
Our Crew was given the opportunity to receive access for one student for one year to the following programs:
- Counting Kingdom
- Story Smarts
- Spelling Ninja
Story Smarts is designed for students 6-10 years of age, it can also be used with children who are older if they struggle in language and/or comprehension. This program contains 30 picture stories grouped into two levels. Simply present the stories by reading them aloud to your child; each story is about 15 minutes in length. It is recommended to complete 2-3 stories a week. The goal of the program is not only to help children learn to read but also to teach children how to extract the invisible core structures which are the basis of a story, making them more meaningful. Over time, your child will develop the ability to recognize the “main idea” of a story and to discuss events and experiences in the story and everyday life, much more freely. As your children become more skilled readers, you will see leaps and bounds in their language and/or comprehension.
Who doesn’t love Ninjas? For so many children reading is a chore and we parents just don’t understand how they can forget those reading skills so frequently. Spelling Ninja is designed to assist students ages 6 and up in developing the essential visual memory skills that lead to effortless spelling and of course, reading and writing. This program is based on many years of research in order to guide students to rapidly develop essential visual memory skills which will lead to effortless spelling, reading, and writing.
Counting Kingdom is an online introductory math program designed to teach the foundations of math designed for ages 3 and up. There are three levels of math instruction to assist children in learning the skills they need. This program does not only instructs our children in the core ideas of math but also developing conceptual and reasoning abilities. An additional goal of the program is to teach students to recognize the many linguistic forms that concepts can be presented in. Beginning with developing an understanding of the numbers 1 through 10, children will develop higher-level skills from generalization to memory, learning new material while the program also reinforces the material learned earlier, giving students a sense of mastery in their learning.
Reading Kingdom also makes it so easy for parents to follow their child’s progress through the program through their dashboard where you can log into your account and view a report showing you exactly where your child is in the program and how they are doing. There are also progress reports emailed to you on a regular basis so you will always know when your child needs a little extra help.
Reading Kingdom is a great place for children to learn to read and develop their skills in reading and writing as well as for adults looking for the best learning opportunities for their children, with a minimal need for parental supervision. Reading Kingdom is easy to use and it is so much fun!
