CTCMath is an online math program covering grades k-12. It is currently used by more than 200,000 students worldwide. For the past few weeks, members of the Homeschool Review Crew have been using CTCMath’s 12-month family membership with their students.
What Is CTCMath?
CTCMath was created by Pat Murray. As a father of 10 and homeschool parent, he saw the need to create a program that was different than what was available. Pat felt the current methods of teaching math were boring and only taught to one learning style. From this desire, CTCMath was born with short, interactive lessons that teach using multiple learning styles.
How CTCMath Works
After registering for a subscription, parents create individual accounts for each student. Students then log in using their own unique user name and password to complete assignments, assigned tasks, or tests. Also included in the student dashboard are speed drills to help with memorization.
Students begin by watching a video tutorial to learn the skill for the lesson. Most videos range from 4 to 9 minutes in length. Following the video students will begin working on interactive lessons or worksheets to practice the skill taught in the lesson. Upon completion of the lesson, students are able to see their results on a one-page summary.
Grade levels and courses available in CTCMath include:
- 1st grade
- 2nd grade
- 3rd grade
- 4th grade
- 5th grade
- 6th grade
- Basic Math and Pre-Algebra
- Elementary Measurement
- Elementary Geometry
- Algebra I
- Algebra II
The Parent Dashboard
From the parent dashboard, parents can get real-time results of their student’s progress. Here they can assign lessons or tests, review past worksheets and lessons, and see their child’s overall grade. When assigning tasks, or when your child is working on a lesson, they are free to move about the program and within various levels.
As the parent, you can register to have reports emailed directly to you. You can also create a unique sheet in the Question Bank Wizard to help your child work on a particular skill. In the parent dashboard, you are also able to see what rewards your student has earned and when their last login was.
