Whether you love math or hate it, many homeschooling families find that teaching math is one of the more challenging things they are called to do. Fortunately, there are companies whose mission it is to make this task easier. CTC Math is one such company, and recently the Review Crew had the privilege of reviewing its 12 Month Family Plan, unlimited access to all lessons, across all grade levels, for up to ten students.

CTC Math is a comprehensive online math tutor offering 1,367 4-9 minute animated and narrated math lessons, a bank of over 57,000 interactive questions, diagnostic tests, and instant feedback to students with regular reporting to parents.

After watching a video tutorial (one page printable summaries of tutorials are available), a student completes interactive questions or a worksheet. The answers are entered into CTC Math’s automated marking system, which stores individual students’ results and creates ongoing progress reports. When answers are submitted, students can see completely worked solutions of problems presented exactly as they should be on a math exam. Because a student’s progress is tracked, both parents and students can view progress reports at any time.

CTC Math has lessons from Kindergarten through High School, all of which are voiced by Pat Murray, a father of 10. There are many different subscription plans available to suit many different needs.

  1. I have children in public school. They have struggled learning common core algebra. Has anyone used this program who doesn’t home school? Would this program be confusing for a public school student?

      CTC is not common core.

From the FAQ on CTC Math site:

No. We believe in the importance of teaching Math the traditional way. Students should have the freedom to choose their preferred method of working out. We do make sure we explain and teach methods which are, from our experience, the easiest, quickest and most successful ways for students to understand and master concepts.

      • Your way works for me. I child is being forced to learn common core but I have found a work around. I teach my child 1+1=2 and 9+8=17, we work on that level first so that the answers are right there and it makes it far easier to figure out the mind game common core plays on every child being forced to learn this foolishness. When I apply math in my real world I never find myself asking or validating the place value of anything – I add what I am buying arrive at the register with a total in my head, period. No matter how they try to change it 20+8 will always be 28, period.
