A Homeschooler’s Favorite Resources on History with a Christian Worldview

History is one of the topics and subjects more easily covered via homeschool than a traditional schooling model. The reason for this is that the consistency of parental teaching means consistency in the teaching of history and a Christian worldview. It is much easier to cover history chronologically and to focus on how certain threads tie throughout history when there is consistency. As believers, we cannot study history without considering Biblical history as well. If we believe in creation and that the Bible is true, those events are woven throughout world history.

In fact, learning Biblical history and world history simultaneously can help us see the truth.

Mystery of History

This four volume curriculum covers history chronologically, beginning with creation and going to modern times. These volumes are meant for any age to complete, with each lesson having three activity choices, each one geared to elementary, middle or high school level learning. This is perfect for family style learning.

The timeline aspect of this curriculum is also extremely beneficial. It is so neat to see a visual representation of the world history events happening simultaneously with Biblical events. Purchasing the printouts of the timeline characters is an excellent add on! Because this curriculum is four volumes, it can be done more than one time. Kids will take in bits and pieces in elementary school and can go through it again, doing the different activities, and take in more in high school. This makes it a good financial investment also.

BiblioPlan

This Bible based history resource is great for the whole family as it is meant for all grades! Students in kindergarten to grade 12 can enjoy and learn from this program. A curriculum made for the whole family makes history learning so much easier as it fosters family discussions and offers the opportunity for field trips and other hands-on learning experiences.

Christian Heroes Then and Now

This extensive series has 50 books, each telling the story of a different Christian hero throughout history. Because each of these books are based on only one person, this is a different approach to learning history. This isn’t going to teach you chronologically, but it is going to tell you about the events happening in the world at the time of the story as it pertains to the person the book is about. So if offers a unique way to study history with a Christian worldview.

These books offer positive Christian role models in a time where that may be hard to find, as well as allowing readers to see examples of a life lived in service to God. The books in this series can be read alone by middle grades and up students but can be enjoyed as a read-aloud by the entire family. Even adults find they learn something and are inspired by these stories.

With 50 different titles, there are so many choices such as Amy Carmichael, Corrie Ten Boom, Elisabeth Elliot, George Muller, Nate Saint, and so many more.

Heroes of History for Young Readers is a similar set for your younger children. These are in picture book form and tell the story by rhyme. Each book is still about one hero of history, but the story is told in a much shorter form and in a rhyming fashion.

Either of these options can get your children intrigued with history and what they can learn.
