Science for High School

This article is in collaboration with Science for High School.

I have shared before about my discomfort when it comes to teaching science – especially for the high school level.  I have a first time high school student this year, and science is definitely the subject that makes me the most nervous.  Needless to say, I was really excited when I received a package from Science for High School!  I really like the premise of this program:

Are You Interested in Biology or Chemistry or Physical Science? This is the curriculum that can take your student from HAVING to do science to ENGAGING in the science experience!

High School Physical Science in Your Home includes two manuals. They contain the tools you need to use to help your high school student achieve a well-rounded year of studying high school physical science.

The Student Manual has lists of questions for each week for your student to research. This is NOT a textbook, but a guide the student follows to discover everything he/she needs to know that encompasses high school physical science. The student manual also contains the directions for each week’s laboratory work.

The Parent Manual contains a list of supplies that are necessary for the entire year. The information that the student needs to have discovered in his/her research is also included. Since many of us have not taken physical science in a while and may have forgotten much of what we did do, the Parent Manual contains detailed explanations of the labs and homework. Quizzes and end-of-semester exams are also included for you to give your student. Of course the answers for all the quizzes and exams are included in the Parent Manual for you.

There are two manuals included in the High School Biology in Your Home curriculum. They include what you need to use as a tool to help your high school student achieve a well-rounded year of studying biology.

The Parent Manual contains a list of supplies that are necessary for the entire year. The information that the student needs to have discovered in his/her research is also included. Quizzes and end-of-semester exams are also available for you to give your student. Of course the answers for all the quizzes and exams are included in the parent manual for you. I have even included a parent’s dissection manual within your volume so that you can check your student’s dissections or help your student locate all the specimen’s “parts”.

  1. High School Biology in Your Home will provide an experience for kids, not just information. Through the research, hands-on dissections, discussion and finally testing, students will not just study biology, but live it.

  2. I was unable to post this one until now… and the biology one is "on the way"… but I wanted to comment that the physical science program offered by High School Science in Your Home is a great program. Not without its flaws, it still is among the best independent learning tools we've run across.

  3. High School Chemistry In Your Home is designed to aid parents in mentoring their teen through the educational process rather than requiring them to pretend to be an all knowing teacher. This curriculum offers great hands-on study for high school level students.
