Math Essentials Reviews

This article is in collaboration with Math Essentials.

According to the Math Essentials website, only 4 out of 10 eighth graders are proficient in math. By 12th grade, that drops to only 2 out of 10.

Rick Fisher, a math teacher in San Jose, CA, created Math Essentials and America’s Math Teacher to address that appalling statistic. Currently, there are four courses available, with plans to add more high school level work.
• Basic Math Skills – for 4th-5th graders
• Advanced Math Skills – for middle grade students
• Pre-algebra
• Algebra I

The program consists of video tutorials and exercises, along with online speed drills and other resources. The video lessons are designed to simulate a one-to-one tutoring session as much as possible, with the students encouraged to work along and then to complete a short page of written exercises.

There are free lessons available online so you can try it out for yourself. Make sure to go check out the online speed drills too.

The Crew received a 60 day subscription to America’s Math Teacher in order to review this math program.
