Homeschool Support Groups in Every State

The Old Schoolhouse® provides support to homeschooling families

As schools begin to close their virtual classrooms for the 2020–21 school year, families are already strategizing for the fall—many by making sure their children are adequately prepared for the grade they will be entering. Yet as parents assess their children’s educational levels, some are quickly coming to the realization that their children were not properly educated throughout the pandemic. This is leading them to take the reins of their family’s education themselves by choosing to withdraw their children from the public school system and join the community of five million homeschoolers in the United States (NHERI.org).

Homeschooling is legal in all fifty states, but the rules and regulations for each state vary (hslda.org/legal). The best way for potential homeschooling families to find the information they need regarding their state’s laws is to connect with a support group in their state. Most states have a statewide organization that provides a list of laws, rules, and regulations, but regional groups are also available in many areas.

The team at The Old Schoolhouse® has a detailed list of support groups—from state groups down to the local level—complete with specific contact information of a variety of support group leaders across the country.

“One of our top priorities at The Old Schoolhouse® is to equip families with all of the tools and resources needed to home educate their children. This includes connecting them with welcoming, experienced, and helpful support group leaders,” explains Gena Suarez, publisher of The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine.

The Old Schoolhouse® has been one of the leading organizations providing homeschool support for twenty years. The year 2001 was when the company began releasing its quarterly print magazine and shipping to families worldwide. Found in Walmart, Barnes & Noble, Target, Walgreens, and other retailers, The Old Schoolhouse® Magazine’s 2021 20th Anniversary Summer edition will hit the shelves June 1.

Even parents who have never considered homeschooling in the past are beginning to realize that with the right resources and tools, teaching at home is not only doable but is the most practical option in today’s educational climate. Support may be right around the corner in the form of a co-op, homeschool convention, support group, or group gathering—it’s just a matter of getting connected to the right people.
