According to the Department of Education: 2 out of 3 children fail to become proficient readers! Reading Kingdom is a reading and writing system developed by Dr. Marion Blank, a world renowned expert on literacy, also the Director of Light on Learning Institute at Columbia University.
Reading Kingdom uses a six skill model of reading instruction. It incorporates elements of phonics and whole language while teaching additional skills required for reading and writing success without requiring kids to learn any of those complicated rules.
This program uses whole language and phonics and is designed for ages 4-10 (grades preschool-3rd) and even struggling readers. This is an online program which not only teaches our children how to read and how to read well, but also helps develop a love of learning within them.
Our children learn using sequencing, phonics sounds, spelling, vocabulary, grammar and reading comprehension to decode words. Once a word is learned on Reading Kingdom, it is mastered. They are able to read it, spell it, use it in a proper sentence, sound it out, and of course they know what it means too. This program even customizes itself to your children as they work, based upon their specific reading needs recognized from past lessons.
This program is a great addition to any reading curriculum for younger students or those who are struggling in their reading skills. There is an assessment available if you are not sure where to place your children when getting started. Each session lasts for about 15 minutes. It is recommended for use four times a week but they may use it more because, once you get started, the lessons are so fun! The animations are bright and colorful and fun! This is such a perfect program for our kids in every stage of learning, to gain confidence and grow a love of reading.
Reading Kingdom also offers ASD Reading which is designed for those with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Innovative content and methods of ASD Reading enable children to achieve success – even when they are non-verbal (i.e., non-speaking).
ASD Reading requires no prerequisite skills and can be used by non verbal students. The program uses graphics, audio and animation to reinforce meaning. It links written and spoken language. ASD Reading provides customized instruction that adapts to the students specific skill and need.
