This week’s Blog Cruise topic can be a touchy one for some. Sometimes when we choose the road less traveled, others, even our own friends and family, like to voice their opinion about it. Sometimes that opinion can be negative and not so encouraging. This week’s question is, How do you respond to family or friends that don’t support your decision to homeschool? Our Crewmates have plenty of suggestions and advice for you.
Be sure to visit the Crew blogs and read their thoughts on this week’s Blog Cruise topic, and kindly leave a comment or two! We hope you enjoy this week’s Cruise!

This article was written and compiled by Jodi who blogs at The Homeschool Desk.
Today at the library, I was talking with a woman in the elevator about homeschooling. She said her niece homeschools and she was very pleasant as we talked. As we exited the elevator, she made one final comment, “The only problem with homeschooling is that the kids are so often ahead of their peers in public school.” What?! I did a double take, but she had already headed toward the stack of free books and so I headed off in the opposite direction to pick up our pile of books on hold – but, even now, hours later, I wish I had taken a few more minutes to find out exactly what she saw as the downside of that?!
Fortunately, our families are primarily supportive of our decision to homeschool, and when they disagree with us on a curriculum or activity choice, they keep quiet. I know many others are not as lucky.
