As a homeschooler, you have undoubtedly heard of Bright Ideas Press… or at least you have heard of some of their products. The Crew Members received one of six different product lines.
Illuminations is the most recent offering put out by Bright Ideas Press. This is a “wrap-around” program that is centered on either Mystery of History or All American History. It covers Bible, literature, geography, history, science, language arts, and more. The material is available in two levels — 3rd to 8th grade (which also includes some material for younger students) and high school. It is an electronic resource, so you can customize it and print only what you need.
At present, Year 1 (Ancient History), Year 2 (Early Church and Middle Ages) are available for full purchase, and the first semester of Year 3 (Renaissance, Reformation and Growth of Nations) is also available, with the second semester due out soon.
Literature Guides from the Illuminations program are now available for sale individually. There are Family Study Guides, which are geared to pretty much all ages with the books meant to be done as read-alouds. There are High School Study Guides, which are meant for the high school students to do fairly independently. Finally, there are Bible Study Guides available for either grades 3-8 or for high school.
Christian Kids Explore Science is a series of four books, on biology, chemistry, physics and earth & space, meant for elementary and middle school students. Each book consists of a text and an optional electronic student activity book, which makes printing individual student pages very easy.
A Young Scholar’s Guide to Composers is a 32 week curriculum for grades 4-8 (adaptable for younger or older students), that looks at 26 composers, their music, and their times, giving special attention to character traits and their Christian testimony.
Hands-On Geography was written for K-5th graders as a starter geography course that can be used over several years. This includes plenty of activities, games and projects meant to appeal to kids yet be easy for parents.
Writer’s Workshop is an e-book that will help you to run a creative writing program in a small group setting. The book includes a year of lesson plans for students of all ages.

We LOVED this!
The Young Composer’s book looks terrific. I like the way it’s divided up over a 32 week period. It would be nice to know if it can be used to teach a Co-op class. I”m looking forward to seeing the Illuminations products at the next homeschool convention. BIP products are some of the best available in the homeschooling market.
Loved reviewing Illuminations, Year 1! We are going to be blessed all year with this one!
