Well, we may be nearly into the middle of August, but there is still time for one last trip before the new school year is underway. Best of all, you won’t need to pack a thing, because this is a digital vacation! All you need is a computer, printer, and a copy of the beloved children’s book, Paddington, by Michael Bond. Our Crew members have been enjoying a virtual trip to London, England and Peru, complements of Branch Out World. Written by a veteran homeschooling mother of 20 years, this study begins with the classic story of a small bear who makes his way to England as a stowaway on a ship from Peru. The adventure is far from over when the last page has been read, as this literature study offers children the chance to investigate more closely, various themes from the book.
Paddington Bear is one of many titles from the Picture Books Explorers series created by this British based company. These downloadable unit studies will have your 5-10 year olds engaged in a variety of educational activities. With close to 50 printable pages in this study, students will have the opportunity to stretch this classic story through notebooking pages, mini books, coloring pages, timelines, math and science exercises. Children will practice grammar, develop spatial awareness, and experiment with parallel lines.
More specifically, you and your young student can look forward to the following…
– Learn about various bear species, including that of Paddington Bear.
– Make their own marmalade, yum!
– Put together, and enjoy a traditional cream tea
– Learn about migration
– Explore architecture
– Learn geography with printable maps and flags
Also included are supply lists to accompany the activities, easy to follow instructions, and a list of additional books, films, and other resources to continue the lessons even further. Families have the freedom to personalize the study to accommodate their students as they choose the activities that align with their unique needs.
