God Schooling: How God Intended Children to Learn Reviews

This article is in collaboration with Julie Polanco.

In the middle of trying out exciting new programs and curriculum, the Crew is also blessed with reviews that encourage us and remind us what this educational journey is all about. This time we were given the book God Schooling: How God Intended Children to Learn by Julie Polanco. The homeschooling lifestyle is full of so many different decisions and responsibilities that it is so easy for parents to get kind of lost in it all. From radical unschooling to public school at home, even just the choice to homeschool comes with controversial decisions within it. God Schooling filters through all the expectations and opinions of the world in order to highlight what matters in educating our kids from a heavenly perspective.

The author, Julie Polanco, is a homeschooling mom of four from the Chicago area whose work has appeared in The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, Home Education Magazine, many trade publications, and has developed a high school botany course for SchoolhouseTeachers.com.

She has a wide spectrum view into homeschooling since she graduated her oldest in 2016 and continues in the trenches with her other children. Human nature often keeps us focused on the pigeonhole we are in and overlooks the bigger picture we should consider. God Schooling walks through issues facing lower and upper elementary ages, teens, and discusses everything in between.

The book is divided into two parts:
Part 1: Dispelling Myths
Part 2: Practice.

She shares her struggles in the beginning with fear driving all of her decisions and despite her best efforts, things just weren’t working well. Through prayer, soul-searching and a slow, but steady walk in a different direction, a different, Christ-led unschooling approach was born. For a deeper look, check out the Crew’s reviews below.
