Science for High School by Bridget Ardoin is a research-based science curriculum that turns the traditional “read the chapter, answer the questions” method on its head. Or on its ear. Or possibly inside out. . .
Bridget Ardoin graduated with a degree in microbiology from Louisiana State University, and has taught high school sciences in both private schools and as a tutor. She began helping homeschooling parents to teach science to their children in the 1990’s and Science for High School is the product of these years of experience.
Parents assign research topics to their child at the beginning of the week, and using the library, the internet, and other sources, the student finds the answers about topics in Physical Science, Chemistry, and Biology. At the end of the week, the student presents what they’ve learned. The Parent’s Manual offers guidance for the parent in assessing their child’s work.
After the research portion of the study is done, it’s time for hands-on labs described in detail in the Parent’s Manual. There are also quizzes and final exams for parents to use to measure understanding and information retention.
This curriculum helps students exercise research, composition, and time management skills.
