Hank the Cowdog

This article is in collaboration with Maverick Books.
Have you ever heard of Hank the Cowdog?  If you’ve been homeschooling for long, surely you have!  Hank is pretty famous in the homeschool marketplace.  I had heard of him, and even seen displays at the local homeschool convention but, truth be told, I had never actually read any of the books or seen the products up close.  So, I was excited to hear that Maverick Books, publisher of the Hank the Cowdog series, would be collaborating with the Crew.

Crew members that will be participating in this review, received a variety package of Hank products, including the following:

The Case of the One-Eyed Killer Stud Horse
.  In this book, Hank encounters all kinds of trouble from poisoned bacon grease, to girl cousins, and Tuerto, one mean horse!  It’s just one example of Hank’s great adventures.

Hank’s Tales and Tunes from Hank the Cowdog CD.  This CD provides a great introduction to many of the characters in the Hank stories. They are performed like an old-time radio show with sound effects.  John Erickson, the series author, provides a unique voice for each of the characters.

Hank’s Tornado Game is a wild, fast-paced race and chase game.  Each person gets a Hank, Drover, and Junior the Buzzard game piece, and it’s a race to see who can get their pieces around the board and safe in their home spaces first.  This game is accompanied by an audio cassette with 30 minutes of excerpts from Hank’s 25th story, The Case of the Swirling Killer Tornado.

Links to Crew reviews will be posted below.  In the meantime, be sure to visit Hank’s website, where you can find Hank merchandise, play Hank games (online), check out the newsletter, and more.

  1. Oops! Could someone remove #17, please? I didn't realize it still had info in parentheses from a meme I did last week.

    Thanks!

  2. Very Creative, but the slang bothered me. Without that, the books would still be very funny. Game would be fun for travel.

  3. This was a fun review for our family. Our oldest son really likes Hank, our younger son neither liked nor disliked the products, and our daughter liked dancing to the songs on the CD. Thanks for the opportunity to review these products!

  4. Glad I could get my son very involved with this game and CD/Tape combo. He enjoyed telling me his opinion of all the different things he gets to listen and play with.

  7. We really liked the game. The book was funn and so were the songs.

I didn't like some of the "slang" language. Disappointing…
