Making Your 2016 Bucket List

Happy New Year! Can you believe it is 2016 already? Do you remember when a year like 2016 was only something you read about in Science Fiction novels? Ha! Fun memories!

Anyway, it’s 2016 and it’s time for a new year. Whether you have done New Years Resolutions or Yearly Goals or anything like that, there are many ways for you to ring in the new year as a family while getting 2016 off to a great start.

One of the ways that my family will be celebrating the new year this year is by creating a 2016 Bucket List. I suppose it is kinda like a goal list, but calling it a Bucket List sounds more fun, don’t you think?

In fact, I have decided to go all out and create a fun Bucket List printable for us to use. We will be filling out the things for our bucket list on the pieces of paper and then putting them into the ‘bucket’ throughout the year as we complete them. Kind of a fun way to set some goals and work on achieving them I think.

So, why have a Bucket List?
Well, I think it’s an excellent way to decide on some things that you want to accomplish in a year and then work towards them. I think the most important part of the 2016 Bucket List is to figure it out as a family!

We sit down at the beginning of the year as a family and determine what we want on the bucket list as a family and as individuals. Both can be on the bucket list.

We don’t have a limit. I think that you should put on there what you want to put on there. However, we preface the Bucket List meeting with the items on the bucket list need to be realistic and attainable. Putting on the list “buy a Porsche” or “travel to Spain” really isn’t something that we would be able to accomplish (though a trip to Spain would certainly be nice.)

We agree that those items we add to the bucket list are things that we really can do as a family or as an individual. We agree that we will challenge ourselves a little and it will not be silly but thoughtful. We take time to come up with the items and then discuss them as a family. Each person must contribute at least 2 family and 2 individual bucket list items, but more is certainly acceptable.

It’s actually a fun first week of January thing to do and we have a great time coming up with ideas. Silly ideas are ALWAYS thrown out. But that is fun to laugh about too and even do a little dreaming. But in the end we only add items that we feel are attainable in the upcoming year.

What Kind of Items are on a Bucket List?

Here are some examples of items that have you might find on a bucket list for family and individuals.

Family

  • Take a family vacation to a beach.
  • Do a Family Service Project each quarter.
  • Have a family game night at least once a month.
  • Go ice skating as a family.
  • Go to an adventures, theme park.
  • Go to a local museum as a family.

Individual

  • Read through the Harry Potter series.
  • Make a photo album.
  • Build a model car.
  • Memorize one new poem.
  • Become a Memory Master in CC.
  • Attend a blogging conference.

Your goals as a family or individually will different depending upon the time of your life and where your family is and their interests. However, you may find inspiration by the above list if you are looking for a way to get started.

If you have never made a bucket list, it can be fun to see the items get put into the bucket as you complete them throughout the year. And the kids will have fun seeing that they accomplished something on their list and added it to the bucket. It can also be an inspiration to find something to do during a month if you have it posted where it’s visible.

We are looking forward to our 2016 Bucket List and seeing what everyone want to do in the New Year!

Have you ever made a Bucket List? Do you have any annual traditions for the New Year? I would love to hear about them. Share below please.
