Welcome back to the 2014 Bloggy Convention! For the next 2 weeks, we are continuing to sharing our favorite upcoming homeschool conventions.
Our next featured convention will arrive to Wichita, KS in May!
Teaching Parents Association — Wichita, KS
May 30-31, 2014
Century II Exhibition Hall
Be sure to stop by the vendor hall booth for The Old Schoolhouse Magazine to pick up your copy of the brand new 2014 Print Edition and to learn about all of the other fun and exciting things happening with TOS!
Our featured speaker from this convention is Dennis Gundersen.
Dennis Gundersen is President and owner of Grace and Truth Books, a Christian publisher of more than 60 books, with a primary ministry focus of reprinting 19th century children’s stories with a character building emphasis.
Dennis’s speaking topics in Wichita will include:
Doing Family Worship without being a Bible Scholar — More and more godly fathers are becoming aware that, as the family shepherd, they should be leading their households into a habit of family worship – that is, consistent time in the Word of God and in prayer together. But many are overwhelmed and tremble at the idea! Dennis Gundersen presents simple, practical, doable ideas that any Dad can make work. You don’t have to be a Bible scholar!
Building a Good Conscience in Your Child — What is the conscience of a child, and how can you train it to be sensitive, think biblically, and respond rightly? Every child is born with a conscience, but it can become weak, damaged, and even seared without biblical, parental guidance. Learn how to make your child wise and strong
Don’t Scare the Children! Homeschooling and the Fear of the Lord — We want to raise children who trust and love God, certainly not children who withdraw from Him in terror! Where’s the balance? Dennis shows how you can communicate this vital subject to real life and find that children who learn the fear of the Lord need not fear anything else!

We are currently reading Super Fudge by Judy Blume. Thought it would be interesting to read some of my favorite author’s work to my 6 year old son. He just loves it so far and uses some of the phrases from the book. Although this book highlights homeschooling in a not so positive light, he still loves it and thinks homeschooling is fun!
My kids are still pretty young so we read whatever books they are currently interested in, the Bible, and my daughter reads Dick and Jane books to me.
We’re reading “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” currently. 🙂

We are not currently reading together out loud…we used to,but got out of the habit when we entered a very stressful & chaotic chapter in our lives. That, & Aspergers in both of my sons, have made it hard to get back in the habit. Lately I’ve been thinking more & more that getting back into the habit of reading aloud might actually help. These books would be a beautiful way to start!
