Math Rider Review

Members of the Schoolhouse Review Crew have recently had the opportunity to review Math Rider.  This computer-based math game is designed for students ages 6-12 to allow practice in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts for numbers 1-12.  Rather than a boring pencil and paper drills, the four operations are each practiced and mastered through four fun quests within a fantasy land.

photo mathrider-product-box-v5-200x209_zpsf141caec.jpgMounted atop the trusty horse, Shadow, the rider moves through digitally matte-painted scenes and earns animated rewards.  Math Rider varies game speed and question difficulty in order to build confidence. The student simply keys in the correct number and presses ENTER. Since the horse’s speed, animation, and sound effects are all controlled by the game, the child is entertained but remains focused on perfecting math skills.  The rewards provide instantaneous feedback and incentive for the child to perform their very best.

During the child’s play, Math Rider assesses what is already known and what still needs to be practiced. This intelligent design allows the program to custom fit to the player. Random questions are eliminated, and the child’s time on the computer is spent practicing facts not yet mastered.
Through an interactive overview map, both students and parents are able to identify the mastery of each number fact and/or operation.  Likewise, more specific information is available by clicking on a question.  This offers a visual representation and detailed statistics.
As far as system requirements, Math Rider uses the Adobe® AIR™ runtime, so the game operates on Windows and Mac. Your computer requires about 80MB of available hard disk space.  The monitor (and graphics card) needs to support at least a resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels.
To get started, you can take advantage of the free 7-day trial.  To purchase Math Rider, the cost is $47, which includes free software updates for life.  This single license allows for up to 8 players. Each child creates their personal rider and then logs in to their own game environment. The game monitors each individual’s progress.
There will be 100 reviews of this product coming in all week!
