Corps of Re-Discovery

The Corps of Re-Discovery was birthed out of a fellow homeschool family’s passion for providing “…high quality, engaging products with directions children can understand”, which are designed in such a way to “inspire imaginations and create memories.” These kits focus on the Pioneers, Frontiersmen and the American Indians, all whom contributed to the early history of the United States.

The projects provide an excellent bridge between the written word [found in your studies]; and the experience of creating hands-on projects, similar to what these brave individuals would have used in their everyday lives.  Named after the Lewis and Clark expedition-the Corps of Discovery; these products make it rather easy to enhance your family’s studies and “Re-Discover” America’s past.

Several of the TOS crew members received one of the following kits to review. Be sure to visit the website to view these, and many other fine items that are available from the Corps of Re-Discovery company.

Corn Husk Doll Kit ($4.50 each)

This crafty gal harkens back to the “creating something out of seemingly nothing” era.  Using the provided materials, children will twist and shape the corn husks into a lovely Colonial/Pioneer lady replica.  You will need at least 2 people to work on this together. Please note: requires some extra materials and light sewing to complete.
Best recommended age:  6 and up with adult supervision

Coin Pouch Kit ($4.99 each)

With just a few stitches, this kit is ready to use almost immediately.  Quite a fashion statement to be sure, the coin pouch is a delight to assemble. The color of leather may vary, comes with all the supplies needed.  This is a fun project to keep and use, or to give away as a unique gift.  Best recommended age: 5 and up

Tomahawk Kit ($5.50 each)

No respectable Frontiersmen would be found without this most useful tool.  Since safety is an issue, these hide-blade Tomahawks are perfect for any adventurous child. The kit includes all the necessary items, outside of the paint to decorate it with.  Easy to put together- this is sure to become a favorite among children and adults alike.
Best recommended age:  4 and up, with adult assistance

Fringe Pouch Kit ($11.99 each)
Photobucket

Whether hiking the dense trails, or out rustling up some grub; this type of pouch came in rather handy.  An excellent addition to complete the Frontiersmen ensemble, this kit comes with all that is needed to sew a rugged carry-all.  Due to the use of a finer needle, this may not be best for younger children-unless careful adult supervision is provided.
Best recommended age:  7 and up

Patchwork Quilt kit ($11.99 each)
Photobucket

Young ladies learned, early on to sew-especially something useful as a quilt.  Your little darling will be able to put together a lovely, Nine Patch doll quilt that is similar to what the pioneers would have made.  The material, batting, thread and yarn are included. It will be necessary to sew this together, whether by hand or machine.  Adult supervision is necessary, especially when using the iron. Please note: the quilt kit requires extra materials to complete it.
Best recommended age: 7 and up
