Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Addition and Subtraction Reviews

This article is in collaboration with Math-U-See.

Math is a subject that can be tricky for younger students to grasp.  Math-U-See now offers the Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) program which can help kids really grasp the basics in learning the very important addition and subtraction skills.  Members of the Homeschool Review Crew were given the opportunity to review Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Addition and Subtraction

  • Accelerated – The opportunity for students to move quickly through a skill set they have not yet mastered, without extra distractions.
  • Individualized – Each student is different, as are their learning preferences. Using as many approaches as possible, the program creates an environment for a student to master the skills they still need at their own pace.
  • Mastery – In this program, mastery means that a student can recall all the math facts using as little mental energy as possible to remain engaged in the process of problem solving.

The Accelerated Individualized Mastery program takes the Math-U-See strategies combined along with their time tested manipulatives to help students to excel in learning single digit addition and subtraction problems.

Students who do not master these problems at a young age can and will struggle with their future math levels. The AIM program takes the old, inefficient ways of learning math that may confuse students, and replaces them with more effective strategies based on number relationships and reasoning.

The AIM program helps students to gain back the confidence that they may have lost through being just plain frustrated with math. It also gives them a new strategy to successfully solve more complex math problems as they continue through math.

There are twenty-two lessons in the Accelerated Individualized Mastery (AIM) for Addition and Subtraction program. Students watch a short video lesson and then work on the problems with their manipulatives and then further practice with their workbook. Each lesson continues to reinforce concepts from the previous lesson. Thus just continuing the building of confidence in each student.

The Accelerated Individualized Mastery program can be used with students from ages 8-16, and with any learning style. When purchasing this program, you will receive the AIM Resource guide, a 12-month digital code for AIM addition and subtraction digital pack, fact check flashcards, Math-U-See coloring pencils, math fact strategy posters, and Math-U-See integer blocks.
